RDS-certified down or synthetic insulation
When you choose a long puffer from Columbia, it will be padded with one of two kinds of insulation materials. Many of our puffers have synthetic polyester insulation, some use 100% recycled polyester. Other puffers are insulated with down certified to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS).
It goes without saying that we value ethical manufacturing practices and making sure of the welfare of animals in our supply chain. That’s why we verify and trace our supply chain from the source of raw materials to the finished coat. We also expect our manufacturing partners to share these values. As a result, you can be sure that the down used in your Columbia down jacket is RDS-certified.

Omni-Heat™ Infinity, Omni-Heat™ Black Dot, Omni-Heat™ 3D and Omni-Heat™ Reflective are all a part of our arsenal of reflective technologies. The Omni-Heat™ technology reflects body heat by means of tiny gold dots, black dots, silver reflectors and silver dots in the outerwear.
If your jacket is super warm, stuffy and doesn’t breathe, you won’t enjoy the outside for long. That’s why our Omni-Heat™ jackets use breathable fabrics, so that outdoor lovers can stay out for as long as possible. The long puffers also deliver next-to-skin comfort, as they are equipped with small pods of soft fibre that create a pleasant air gap between the fabric and your body.
Which long puffer suits you the best?
To find the ideal long puffer for you, don’t settle for the first insulated coat you see in a shop. You should also consider how warm of a coat you need. Our puffers are divided into three easy-to-understand warmth levels:
- Light Warmth: Jackets with synthetic insulation, they’re easily packable and some models feature thermal-reflective technology.
- Warm: Jackets that are often insulated with down or synthetic and often featuring thermal-reflective technology.
- Extremely Warm: Jackets with extra warmth due to down or synthetic insulation and advanced construction technology, such as Heat Seal Construction.
